A cat named Dexter can’t make up his mind about the way he feels toward his mom’s new foster kitten, and internet users can’t cope with his behavior toward him.
In a viral TikTok video shared on Friday by @the_maine_coonies_, the black Maine coon can be seen grooming his fur on the couch when out of nowhere, his mom brings the little foster kitten over to him.
While he initially hisses at the sight of the baby, he then immediately grabs him and starts grooming his fur too, holding him down with his paws as he gives the kitten a good wash.
“Dexter is still confused about his feelings toward the foster kitten,” reads layover text in the clip, as the poster points out the kitten’s “little noises the whole time” in the caption.
Abbey Audesse, 25-year-old from South Carolina, told Newsweek that Dexter is very much “all bark and no bite,” just acting overly dramatic when the kittens are around him.

“The kitten is a foster I’ve had for a couple weeks, [he] is 1 of 3 that was saved from outdoors. I really want to emphasize that the kitten is not in any danger.
“There have been some comments that she looks scared. I’m obviously an animal lover and would never put one in danger intentionally. They’ve come a long way since I got them and they truly are thriving,” she said.
Maine coons are known for being a friendly and easygoing breed, and they usually only get in a fight when they feel threatened.
Georgia-based veterinarian Jess Kirk says on website Vet Explains Pets that Maine coons can definitely live harmoniously with other cats, with proper socialization, training and a conducive environment.
For a smooth cohabitation, you must provide each cat with their own space and resources, trying to avoid any unnecessary conflicts.
The key to a loving cat relationship is in their introduction, which if done properly, can set the basis for a beautiful, lifelong friendship.
A Catster article medically reviewed by Dr. Luqman Javed says that the first step after you’ve quarantined your kitten (especially if it’s a rescue) for a couple of weeks, is to swap their scent before introducing them face to face.
You should only allow contact between the two felines when you know they are comfortable around each other. Make sure they both have their own bowls, toys and beds, and a space to isolate from each other when needed.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 2.9 million views and 397,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Retrocat360, commented: “Poor baby doesn’t know to enjoy it or fear it.”
